Getting into BBCi

Where do you submit a site for review ?

I've looked all over the BBCi directory and can't find any URL suggestion link or forms or anything. It appears they have a small number of contributors in each section, but how do they decide which sites get in ?

Has anyone submitted any sites to them, which actually made it in. If so, where did you send it, and how long did it take to be listed ?

I may be wrong, but I think their Webguide section is a seperate thing from the main directory. I've already got some sites into the Webguide. This has been around for a lot longer than BBCi, and I'm sure it's not as influential.

It asks you whether the site you own. Does it matter if you select yes or no? Or is it better to get a friend to "review" your site for you?

It does come from Google - but there is a filter applied (in favour of UK sites I think).

Not all, first three in this search [bbc.co.uk] for example.

I think you are mixing up their 'webguide' and their new 'search facility'.

The webguide is a BBC selected sites thing. The search facility is google (but has been enhanced to promote bbc sites).

The webguide is not fair. I tried to get in there but the rules say no commercial site. I mailed them to ask why a heavily commercial horse racing tipping website was listed in there.

I got no reply but research I did found that the site is being run by an ex t.v. broadcaster.

Bit of the old school tie, rolled up trouser leg funny handshake thing going on.

The results in the BBC search are Google without the advertising, when the results appear you can then select UK only results. Our site has just been given "BBCi Recommended" with their own description of our site. The site now always appears at the top under our number 1 competitors site which is also "BBCi Recommended" for all searches for our very sensitive topic. This seems to be the equivilent of having a premium sponsored listings for FREE. I have now become the BBC's number 1 fan.

From the 'reviews' page, one might guess that things are slowing down ... not a lot recent. [bbc.co.uk...]

they don't link to commercial sites!

Except Famous Grouse?
