High-end database company Solid Information Technology will create an open-source storage "engine" for the MySQL database.

Solid's database is used primarily for demanding applications in industries such as telecommunications and finance where there is a need for fast transactions and little down time, according to company executives.

Interesting - think it's a real effort, or an attempt by Solid Information Technology to curry buyout attention from Oracle, now that everone saw what happened with InnoDB?

Interesting point about Oracle there. This eWeek article from last October:
[eweek.com...] says that Paola Lubet of Solid, who is quoted in the news.com article above, used to be "senior director of database product marketing" at Oracle.
