I am a technology advisor that offers impartial advice to both companies wanting to adopt technologies and web development companies that are constantly growing. I have been posed a question from one such developer who has been building brochure sites and the odd ecommerce one. She has an existing client looking to build a new web site that would contain local history and family history articles and photo galleries. The client wants to be able to update the site himself - probably on a daily basis. He wants to charge visitors to see this information or have an annual subscription fee if you register as a member (a sort of Family history Reunited). He also seems confident that he can charge a small one-off fee for one-time visitors.
The question - is their a database driven programme, out there that can be bought off the shelf that would do the trick. Just wondered if anyone knew of something they might recommend?

How about the open source app called "Gallery" available from sourceforge..? I think version 2 is database-driven and compatible with MySQL as well as other databases...

Hi,

There is a new product that does all that.
Oracle just released a web based rapid application developement tool called application express.

a free edition comes with the database express from oracle.

I have used this tool for 2 months now and I am amazed by its capabilities. The idea that Oracle gives it away for Databases under 4Gb does help.

You should research the available content management systems, it seems like this is what you need. For a good list and ratings:
