Worth importing data into new mySQL db?

My website has been having performance issues lately, at least some of which are related to the mySQL database. I'm wondering if it worth starting over the database -- export the data from the old and import it into a new one.

The data we have originated in Movable Type years ago, then migrated into WordPress 1.0+. We've upgraded WP several times, and are upgrading again soon (to 2.1).

Is it worth doing a clean install of WP and exporting/importing the data? Or would it not make any difference? Thoughts?

I don't think, that "reinstalling" the database will make a difference.
The speed problem may be connected with indexing or query optimization.
What could also help is moving the db to faster server. I don't see other things that could help.
