mysql Filter by letters

Greetings!

I'm doing a list of singers and I now need to allow our visitors to chose a letter, and show them only singers whose names begin with the chosen letter.

I head there was a mysql function to do that directly from the query. Could anyone enlighten me please?

You could always grab the first letter using SUBSTRING.
