PHPBB changing hosts

can I back it up and move it?

I am running a PHPBB on my current host provider, it is a preinstalled version. I have moved a number of my sites over to a new host provider as the old one has developed a lot of problems. The new provider also has PHPBB preinstalled, is it possible to move my database?

Thanks in advance ya'll for any ideas on this.

Should be no problem as long as you can download the database, then reinstall it on the new host. You can download a backup of the database from the phpBB admin control panel as long as it is not too large, otherwise you can do so with phpMyAdmin or similar in the hosting control panel. You can also do a mysqldump via the command line if you have SSH access.

On the new host, upload and import the file, adjust your config.php file in the forum root for the new database, and then you should be all set. :)

You may have some overlap during the DNS propagation unless you shut down the forum on the old host.

I used the backup and restore and all seems fine in IE, I am having some issues logging in in FireFox.
What do I need to do to the config file?

Try deleting your cookie(s) and try again.

I had deleted the cookies with no luck but now after a reboot, things seem to be ok.
So, now I can go back to the daily task of deleting spammers:)
