Each post to my community earns the poster 'cash', I have built a small script that interfaces with phpbb that will allow users to 'purchase' an item when it is up for sale. Generally I plan to simply stock only one or two items a month.
Some of these people may be minors. Though my phpbb does contain the standard COPPA agreement, and I basicly ignore all requests for users under 13, what are the legal issues, if any, in sending gifts to minors?
The items for 'sale' could be plushy toys, audio CDs comic books, or DVD series. Though I would take obvious steps not to include any expressly adult material, the genre of the topic by its very nature sometimes contains a certain amount of sexuality and violence.
I know some familes that would be ok with a level of violence and sexuality (pg-13), yet others would not.
Some materials are not even rated, yet very popular in the community.
Any ideas, tips, advice?
I have thought perhaps it may be safer to simply send a gift certificate to online store(s), that way I would not be directly responsible for the selected item. This solution (if indeed it is a solution) somehow takes a little of the 'cool' factor out of the whole process for my users though. Its must easier to get people excited about a specific product then a generic.
