I need a lite-weight forum, no phpbb, or anything.

-secure
-basic forum admin
-easy to integrate with site's user management

I know enough php / mysql to go through a lite-weight forum and hack it to my specifications, I just need to know what is out there. Any forum script suggestions would be great.

If you have $$$ to spend buy a copy of vBulletin (vBulletin.com). Many who start out with free forum software lament thier decision and end up going to vB. A new lifetime license will cost about $160. That includes support. Hope this helps.

There's lots of free stuff out there. If you have basic php skills you'll be fine. Maybe begin at www.phpbuilder.com?

A nice light-weight package which might suit you - MiniBB:

[minibb.net...]

Haven't tried it for a while, but the 1.x versions were simple and easy to integrate into an existing site. I hope the current version (2.x) is the same.

I've been looking at integrating vbulletin with amember - user management still not quite made a decision, but what I have discovered is the real gap in password protected areas, forums and user management all working together... it seems so god damn obvious?

Yet not found a straight out of the can option yet, amember being the closest...
