Forum Moderators: rogerd
I run a Snitz forum that I setup a few years ago, which runs off an Access DB. As the traffic to the site grew, I knew I would have to convert to MySQL, but to be honest my tech knowledge aint great, so I always put it off.
More recently Ive started running PhPbb forums and I was thinking about replacing my Snitz forum for PhPbb.
Initially my plan was simply to lock the Snitz one and do my best to get people to re-register - the posts would be presevered in an archive type section (they bring in a lot of SE referrals).
I don't have a lot of regular users due to the nature of the subject area, so impact on the community would be minimal, and I firmly believe that implementation of the PhPbb forum would in fact increase forum usage in the long run.
But it has been suggested that it may be possible to convert the old Snitz (Access) data to PhPbb (MySQL).
I'm going to make the change one way or another, but obviously I'd prefer to retain the forum data in the new format.
Does anyone know of a patch / programme / anything that could be used to covert the data?
Im confident I can minimise the impact on my users with the changeover and even re-build a "new" community from scratch if need be - I'd just rather not have to! ;)
Any advice would be much appreciated!
Regards
Scott
