To gauge the size of people's forums out there can we have a post with the member size + post count. I'll go first - I have three forums not the biggest either but here goes:

Site 1: 1300 post/day or so.
314666 posts ¦ 5842 registered members

Site 2: 250 post/day
60660 posts ¦ 1463 registered members

Site 3: 100 post/day
38800 posts ¦ 1148 registered members

And am working on setting up a site 4. Site 4 will be based on hopefully earning some revenue as my other sites are in areas where there is not the same sort of money available (one of them is pets and the others aren't large enough)

So how are yours doing?

Site 1: No idea how many posts/day - it varies A LOT
78,000 posts ¦ 6000 registered members - they're not hugely active, they're most there to gaze at pictures.

Site 2: 3-20 posts/day
1224 posts ¦ 332 registered members - this site, people come to get answers to a puzzle or to read other people's posts. Lurkers, what are ya gonna do?

Site 3: 10-100 posts/day
20,000+ posts ¦ 50 registered members - this is just a personal board of friends. It's existed for four or so years.

None of my forums make a dime. Okay, maybe one of them makes the occasional dollar. I don't run my forums as a business. I'm not sure I could run one purely for business purposes.

I agree I would never want to place ads all over (or popups!) on my forum, I'd never do that either! Having said that the costs of allowing image uploads + being big means that you have to make a buck somewhere - perhaps you ask for member donations? :)

On looking at my first post it seems very much like a "how big is yours" well it is to an extent but I am just curious I realise there are some giants out there - big-boards.com shows the mammoths. Wondering if any of you are amongst them! :) Some of them must be raking it in to be honest...

I do allow image uploads, but I have three servers, so the bandwidth isn't a big problem. I earn my money from my other sites, not associated with my boards. A couple of my sites have some ads on them, but they don't make any money. One site is full of people without credit cards, one is full of friends and one isn't very busy.

One lowly forum w/ approximately 30 posts/day.

total posts: 8600
registered users: 515

The industry's just too small I tell ya! Next biggest forum gets 3-4 posts a month!

I don't do "mine's bigger than yours" - it's a guy thing.
