Hi, what would you classify as an active forum? At this point our forum gets about 2 to 5 new threads a day but I've seen forums where around 100 new threads are started every day. So, how many threads are started at the most active forums? What about WWM - how many new threads per day are started here?

I don't think Brett publishes that statistic for here. I've got a busy forum that averages 300 - 400 new threads daily with bursts in the 700 range.

"Busy" is relative - there are forums with tens of millions of posts out there.

There's a site dedicated to the stats of "big boards." That may be some interesting material to look at, openmind.

I think there is such a thing as "too many" new threads per day. Surely there is a sweet-spot for new threads. Too many and it becomes a challenge for users to keep track of them from one day to the next.

I just passed ownership of a forum that generates 2500 new posts a day IIRC. Working on one that I'm lucky to see 3 new threads a day. I'd say it's active if it's got a few new posts every hour - someone visits a couple of times a day and they've got new content to look at.

One thing I noticed on the 'busy' site is that the 'garbage can' or 'foo' area takes a lot of posts. That's the result of it being a true community, where folks come just to shoot the breeze with their peers, in areas unrelated to the actual site. That's part of my goal with my new forum - get people posting outside the industry forums.
