I'm looking to set up my first web forum.
One I used to frequent recently went down so I'm looking to set up a replacement for it.
The old board was fairly active, it had about 4000 registered members and maybe 500,000 posts. I think the most users ever on at one time was about 300 and it averaged around 40-80 on at one time usually.
I've been trying to figure out what kind of bandwidth I'd need to run a replacement board that had similar activity.
One I looked at is a forum hosting service:
800Mb File Storage
75Gb Data Transfer
Unlimited DB Storage
Forum Software
FREE SETUP! for something like $75 a month.
Do you think this service could handle a forum like the one I described above?
I'm willing to pay a little more for ease of use.
Thanks for any advice,
Dave

Predicting the capacity of a particular hosting & forum software combination can be tricky. You are fortunate that you have a fairly specific idea of your needs.
I'd go direct to the provider and ask if the package they are quoting will handle your needs. I'd also ask for some references, i.e., forums at least as busy as you expect to be. Check out the forums, see how busy they are, and how responsive they are when loading pages.
If you start getting a few hundred users online at once, you'll be stressing most shared hosting setups.
