Facebook is asking its members to help shape its governance policies after drawing their ire for a policy change that many perceived as being overbearing and potentially compromising privacy. From now on, the social networking site will be guided by a set of principles that reflect its dedication to transparency and openness in communication, Facebook said on Thursday.
Two draft documents are being put to test under what Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg called a "new model of governance."
The "Facebook Principles" lay out the startup company's philosophy on privacy and control of information, while the "Statement of Rights and Responsibilities" are operating guidelines based on its big-picture stance.
Perhaps they want to avoid the furor.
Facebook Terms Update Creates Heated Debate [webmasterworld.com]
I see dark days ahead for the poor developers over at FB.
"Get on that new user policy request just sent in by 50,000 users in group A".
"Wait, cancel that... 40,000 users of group B just said they hate it."
"Wait, nevermind... can you restore that? Group C is now wanting some of those features... but we have to clear it with group A first... Hold on... Who the hell is group D?!?"
I am all for getting feedback from users. But I think they have a long road ahead of them.
