Can anyone recommend a (PHP-based) e-mail list management software. Cheap or free is good but I am willing to pay.

I expect to send out about 1 e-mail per month to subscribers. I expect to have < 1,000 subscribers, it won't be a huge demand thing.

I'm running LAMP so a PHP type script would be good, ideally I want a package I can install on my system rather than paying someone else to host it (just due to the small volume, think ROI). What are you guys using? What would you recommend to a newbie to this? I want to keep it simple. Thx!

I use a hosted Lyris solution rather than running my own email manager. Very powerful and feature rich.

Whatever you decide on, be sure it has robust bounce handling and easy opt-out features. Tasks that don't take much time to handle manually when your list is small can overwhelm you when your list grows.

Well I signed up for aweber, a friend recommended them. I think it's $19/mo, a little more than I wanted to spend but if it doesn't pay off I'll find something cheaper or free :-)
