Just wondering if anyone has seen any statistics or numbers around the different widget technologies that are out there. The background is that I'm building a community site and am thinking of building iGoogle, Apple Dashboard, NetVibes widgets to allow people access to their profiles. Where should I spend my time? Have I missed the big one? Facebook for example?
BTW I'm a first-time poster, but I've been a lurker here for a couple of years now. I've learned a great deal in that time, so thanks everyone!
The site is a productivity tool, which lets you manage and tag actions. The idea of the widgets is to let people provide read-only public access to their profile... for example: a wordpress widget so on my blog I can have a list of any open projects that I've made public.
So the widget would display public information about a person's tasks and projects, and would contain a link to their profile. I'd like to use a technology that would be generic, ala last.fm where you have a html table with embedded styles (which could be placed on almost any webpage), so I'll produce something like that, but I also want to bear in mind any proprietary widget platforms (iGoogle and Netvibes are the main ones I know about and seem to only support igoogle pages and netvibes pages - I used the word platforms to describe those technologies)...
I was looking to find out whether anyone had made widgets for different platforms and whether they'd had stellar success with any in particular, e.g.: don't bother with netvibes or dashboard, but igoogle is great...
