Hello Dear Readers and Webmasters

I'm here with a new issue regarding Stumbleupon a social networking website. As you all know that nowadays social networking/bookmarking websites play a vital role in sending one links to your site. But here I wanna ask you all is stumbleupon links comes under spamming or not.

I'm a webmaster of a site having PR-4 and good keyword positions over the search engines. A day ago I've tagged a link on stumbleupon of my website, certainly I've seen that over 1000 visits drawn to that page. Okay that was good, but very next day when I was in a process of analyzing my web-ranking, I was shocked to see a major flactuation has occured on more than 3 keywords on Google. A big jump from 22 to 86 place for a a keyword and some minor flactuations could be seen but only on Google. My question is that whether tagging or bookmarking with stumbleupon can cause demolishing in ranking or in other words either google consider pages tagged with SU (stumbleupon) as spam. What do you say it about? Any body who can satisfy me with regards to it.

Thanks

Bilal

Did you check if your links from stumbleupon are no followed?

No not yet been, but I'll make sure.. but if they are nofollowed, what impact it could be on the web ranking?

Thanks

Hello Again

Yes the are follow and index links. I have seen that google has indexed the link coming from Stumbleupon (SU) site to my site. And also google analytics tells that a link is coming from SU to your site with more than 1100 visits. But I'm still confused, if a link generates traffic with "indexfollow" then how it hurts the web ranking. My question is still under a pipeline, whether Google consider the link coming from SU as spam or not? even the link is with index-follow rule.

Thanks

Bilal

SU nofollows links from their website, afaik. If the link is nofollowed then it won't be counted by Google for ranking calculations. So you may want to consider looking elsewhere for why your site dropped. Check the Google forum because there have been a number of recent changes which could affect your ranking.

Just because a link shows up in your backlink count doesn't mean it's counting toward your ranking. Conversely, just because a link does not show up in your backlink SERPs doesn't mean it is not counting. The backlinks Google shows you are informational and random, not for SEO purposes.

Stumbleupon seems harmless enough from an SEO standpoint. If a traffic blast somehow caused a big link jump, that might do something with Google's ranking (probably good things, but you never know). In my experience, Stumbleupon users aren't big linkers. I've had some nice surges from them (better quality traffic than Digg, IMO, and more spread out over time, but haven't noticed much in the way of obvious link gains.

I still think that the bookmarking should only be used in the very beginning when the site is young and you want to attract some people to it. From then on you should rely only on your content in order to get more loyal readers and subscribers.
