Start a new community website

I want to start a new community website which has features provided by myspace, friendster, etc. Is drupal the right cms to use for this project or are there any better scripts out there?

It sounds like you are looking for social networking software rather than a CMS, though Drupal does have some community features.

What are the most important elements in your plan? Profiles & buddy lists? A discussion forum? Personal blogs?

As you define the most critical features, you may start to lean toward one class of software.
