This seems like a good place to share ideas as to what are effective ranking terms. We all see it when we sign up to forums, you start out as the "New User" here one WW and progress to "Senior Member".
I would be curious as to what others use for ranking. Some I have found to be quite comical! Some can be somewhat insulting or overly gracious.
Personally I think insulting new user names like "NOOB" "WET BEHIND EARS" might be too harsh. Also top ranking names like "God Of Topic" might be too misleading as to the posters credentuals...
Let me start with a few I have seen (some are not mine)
The Quiet Type 0 - 50 posts
Happy Camper 51 - 100
Active Poster 101 - 250
Elite Poster 251 - 500
Valued Contributor 501 - 1000
Board Veteran 1000+
(same post ratio)

Some use military ranking for this.

What is the purpose?
It creates an artificial situation where people with more numbers are given more kudos than those with less numbers. There is no increase in quality, intelligence, or anything ele, in the persons posting just more numbers.
By removing the system totally the quality of peoples posts are ranked on their content, and not on their board ranking.
It serves no purpose except to create an artificial pecking order on the board. I'm all for meritocracy of posters rather than a random assignation of points based on how long they have been on a board.
I think an important benefit of ranking systems is that members who have become "senior" have a reputation to protect - you wouldn't expect drive-by Spam from them. In addition they feel a "duty" to share their knowledge and experience.
Exactly! I am a believer in the ranking system having run a popular board for several years now.
Still we seem to be straying from the topic. I really only wanted a light hearted list of rankings you folks use or have seen, just for some comic relief and some insight into other board runners mentality.
