Managing a Forum ref Storage Requirements

Do forums just keep growing forever? I only have 200mb disk space on my host and I sometimes go over that and the forum doesn't work well till I turn off the cache feature.

I don't understand why, but turning off the feature instantly makes it run okay even though it takes some time for the cache to be deleted and I drop below my 200mb allotment.

Back to the question... I give my users titles like Senior based on how many posts they have made. So I'd hate to start deleting them.

Just wondering how other "forum masters" handle this. I guess I just need to keep buying more disk space?

At that rate THIS forum would be HUGE.?

Not much you can do besides get more space. You should easily be able to get more than 200mb for a reasonable price ... shop around or cut a deal with your host.
As for WebmasterWorld.com: it's on a dedicated server so has a lot of storage capacity ;)

I also discovered that I can automatically delete or "prune" old threads that haven't been posted in (say over the past two years) without it reducing the post count of my members.

Be cautious when pruning - some of those old threads may still generate significant site traffic, or contain information your members still refer to. Disk space is cheap, find a new host.
