Need advice on my user like and dislike

Hi,

I am currently making my own forum and I rarely popin in this section of the forum so I woud apperciate if someone can direct me to the greatest topics.

I am looking for a small list of things user like/dislike and things I should do and not do specially regarding email notification and post content (emoticon, CSS and how to deal with html content (allow images, URL, etc.)

Finally, I would also love to know the different method used by cookies to get not-seen-posts?
I can understand posts created after the last visit date are not seen but what about posts created before its visite and not seen?
