Hi

invision decided to allow only their paid customers to use theior support forums. If you dont pay, you cannot even view any posts or topics there...

I wonder if there is any unofficial support forum for invision board somehwere?
and if not, is it illegal to start one myself?

We don't do legal advice here, but certainly it should be OK to discuss using another firm's product at your forum. Check with an attorney in your jurisdiction if you are concerned about this. If you launch your board, be careful about trademarks and make it clear that you are not presenting yourself as the software supplier or some kind of official site. And, of course, be aware that even if you are legally right, someone can still sue you and consume valuable resources.
