At most forums, the mods are well-respected members who have many posts to their credit and get promoted to mod status. At one forum I admin, though, most of the mods prefer to be incognito. They may be a well-respected high volume poster, but they opt for a new mod name. This seems a bit unusual, but the users who want a separate identity seem to think their fellow members would treat them differently as mods. Anyone have this kind of situation? I'd prefer that mods keep their member identities due to the long-term respect factor, but I don't want to make them uncomfortable.

Geeze, that's a recipe for disaster down the road. When other posters find out who the incognito mods really are, not only will the mods find any respect they shot, so will the board in general.

Is there anyway you could set up a generic 'Moderator' username with a password known to all the mods? Not sure if this would work on your forum though
