Hi everyone,

I have been reading webmasterworld for a couple of years now, and I registered today because I am facing a problem for which I haven't found a solution.

My company wants to expand its activity in China (we currently have several dotcom platforms in English). We want to develop a new website in Chinese. I have read several interesting threads about hosting and encoding issues that have answered many of my questions.

We spoke with a couple of hosting providers in Hong Kong in the previous weeks to find out what the best hosting option was. I did not do the talking myself as I don't speak Mandarin (We will probably host the website in HK but the content will be aimed at mainland China - in Mandarin). A colleague did it. She probably mentioned our company name to one of her contacts, and when we tried to register our-company-name.cn a few days later ...guess what happened... the domain name had been registered the day before.

So we ended up registering our-company-name.com.cn

I would like to know if it is possible to claim that domain name back.
Our company name is very specific, it *cannot* be a coïncidence.
What is the law in China regarding this matter?

thanks for your replies.

China does have law against this kind of activities. You may need to contact a lawyer for it.

Below is a link about domain dispute policy in China

Good luck!

If you are not from a very famous brand, i can not gurantee that you can draw back the right to use your company as a domain. Not only you, but also lots of big companies here have met such problems.
