Shanghai internet access in hotels was like round $20 a day in the 5 star hotels. and I am sure you can achieve a full working day a lot of the time.
however uploading large files or doing FTP etcd with US servers may be slow
good luck and see you in Shanghai

Most decent hotels offer high-speed Internet access for free or around 10 USD per day.
Prepaid dial-up access cards are available all over the city.
If you are an extreme mobile user, you can purchase GPRS service package (provided by China Mobile). It is 1500 RMB (200 USD) and is good of one year. You can then use your mobile phone to access Internet anytime. You can later sell it at eachnet.com (an ebay website)
For hotel informaiton, take a search at ctrip.com. For pre-paid dial-up card, try cncard.com. For GPRS package, visit www.cmcc.com.cn
around 10 USD per day.

Everything is wonderful except the living condition is very different from western countries.I don't know what is the meaning of sick for 2 years already, now I am really seriously sick after living in China for 2 weeks even I am a native Chinese. It is hot, hot, dirty and dirty.
