Only one page in Chinese

How difficult to rank it high on searchengines?

I'm working for a site whose Chinese customers are English speaking. To tap such customers who might be searching in the local language, does it make sense to build just one page in Chinese and have them browse the rest of the site in English. In such a case would it help with the searchengines to have only one page in Chinese.

Sure Ecmast you could use a Chinese language doorway page and have the rest of the site in English. You may want to specify on that page that the rest of the site is in English.

I don't know the size nor topic of your site, but why not translate it all into simplified Chinese?

I'm going through a similar process. It has to be good for customer relations to speak their language as much as possible.

Hi Ecmast; Again I agree with Bill. I would add this:
Make sure you find a highly literate native Chinese speaker
to translate and help arrange that one page for you.
Its well worth it.
I'm in a non commercial sector. Still, I found a very kind and intelligent
Swiss psychologist to translate my main pages into proper French.
An equally notable gentleman in Spain did likewise for another page or two.

In both cases, I (or they) made it clear that the rest of the site was in English.

This is no place for high-school linguistics.
That one piece of polish shows respect for other languages, and given that,

hi ecmast; u asked about getting 1 page to rank high on chinese engines. it is quite difficult to get only 1 page to rank highly due to the structure of the chinese language as well as engine algorthyms.

but it is always worthwhile putting content in the language of the consumer; if nothing else it shows you are taking them seriously.
