Overture Hong Kong opened office a few months ago, and am assuming they will be handling Yahoo China and their other interests.

It sounds like you're asking about PPC (pay-per-click) advertising in China. The oldest and most popular service in China is run by Baidu. Google's AdWords is probably #2. Yahoo could be a big player in this market, but I haven't heard any firm news about their service.

Are there any other PPC players worth noting in the China market?

That's true. I've used Sohu that way to an extent. Some of their advertising packages do let you specify some keywords. However, they don't syndicate that advertising out to sites outside their network that I know of.

At present, more and more search engines and search websites are providing PPC Ranking service in the area of Chinese search engine, but the most influential ones are still those are familiar and frequently used search engines and search websites. They are no more than Baidu Search, Yahoo China Search, Sohu Search, Netease(163) Search and Sina Search.

Bill's right, Baidu is #1, Google's AdWords is probably #2, and Yahoo china is a little behind of them, others are by a finger's breadth distance.

Baidu PPC is almost the reprint of overture ppc, ads placements are changed in accordance with the cost you pay. Others offer the similar PPC services with only a little differences in terms of service names, price levels and corresponding placement regulations, for details about these factors, you can find out on their sites:

From what I have heard, Yahoo doesn't have a full Chinese version of its Overture services in Chinese. How do the Yahoo sponsored listings in Chinese work compared to Overture? Are those listings shared among Yahoo China SERPS from 3721 and Yisou, etc.?

Yahoo China offers two kinds of search ads, one is callde site search placement£¨or ranking£©service, and another is search biding service.

As the first one, on the keywords (the keywords was bought by customer) displaying search results page, customer¡¯s website will be displayed on the top, it will not be displayed on other search results pages. And Maximum 5 websites can be displayed there, customer can choose its ranking within 1-5 during purchase. For example, the top ones [cn.search.yahoo.com].

the latter operates as the Overture PPC service. You choose relative keywords, and bid for ad placement. Then the ads will expose in SERPs when searchers type thes keywords as search query. The more you bid, the higher your ads rank, and you pay when someone click on your ad.

Search biding ads could be shown on SERPs of Yahoo China, Yisou, 3721, and Search Union Sites(which is consisted by a vary of commercial sites, enterprise sites and personal sites in China), and all of those will be indicated by "promotion" sign with each list.
