This is an interesting article that gives some good basic data concerning the China market. For instance, the market breakdown last year:

The article has a strong Zhongsou bias, but it is interesting that they say that Baidu is not much of an innovator in this market. They tend to copy Google technology. Zhongsou claims to be coming up with home-grown technology, like their new desktop search.
