Some time ago a friend of mine decided to open a sort of e-commerce in china’s part of Web, he wanted to find out the real traffic rate of main Chinese searchengines as [sohu.com...] [wangyi.com...] [alibaba.com...] and the like. The purpose was to collect information in order to understand on what website we may post our ads.
I started digging PRC (mainland China) traffic statistics data. But hardly my way can be called successful. I DIDN’T found even a peaces of real inf. There is view page statistics on [eaini.com...] . But now sign of unique IP, that what I prefer to see most of all

I want to ask, who can advise me some source of traffic statistics?

The main search engines in China are Baidu.com, Google.com, 3721.com (Address bar search engine and now acquired by Yahoo.com), and sina, sohu, netease (what you called wangyi). IMO, you only need to consider the first three, which have nearly 80% market share. The latter three are now powered by Zhongsou.com whose results are rubbish.

yep, I know about some sort of independent statistics about searchengines in the Chinese side of the web.
first five (as you have already said) are:
Baidu, Yahoo.com.cn, Sohu, Sina, Netease(Wangyi), 3721.com. In different sources we can see different order . But i failed to find traffic info. What i was able to get is the information from "About us" and some interesting comments at www.chinablog.com.

Alexa seems to be the only one who provide page view rate for these searchengines. I found www.ajiang.cn which supply sites with traffic calculating engines, but doesn’t give the all info.

My target is to find out at what resource we can post our clients ads, it should be informational portals.

Shakeda, is the site English or Chinese? For English sites Chinese traffic is no good (may depend on what you sell of course). For Chinese traffic you could perhaps consider Alexa data.

THKS for good advise, I got in touch with Alexa couple month ago, unluckily now I am not sure whether their info is good or just a sort of “frame” of real situation. In my case I despairingly need real or almost real traffic rate information ‘couz my clients might me disappointed if results no good.

My target audience is Chinese-speaking entrepreneurs I guess… J
My main goal right now, as I have said before, is to find out traffic rate for Chinese sites or to find out the way Chinese sites calculating their traffic.
Some of mine clients believes that Chinese internet market is a best chance to win the jackpot. May be they are right…

From www.chinablog.com/new/display/25495.html I’ve got interesting info, have a look:

Total amount of internet users in china is about 80.000.000.
Not more then 30% are using web every day

But www.sina.com.cn writes that about 300.000.000 people every day visit their resource….

Is there any one who can speak mandarin?

I am a native Chinese and live in Beijing now.

In terms of portal, www.sina.com.cn is definately the number 1. I dont know where you get the number of 300,000,000, but I think it is really the page view, not person.

Also talking about alexa data, it looks good to me. And that is the best data you can get, I think.

shakeda,

I am a real Chinese living in Holland at this moment.

You can find official traffic data at [cnnic.net.cn....] The page which contains the data you might want is :
[cnnic.net.cn...]

They have both Chinese and English version, although Chinese version seesm to contain a little more information, there is a lot of content in English version as well.

Most of users of Sohu.com, wanyyi.com (163.com) are kids, especially wanyyi. alibaba.com might be a better choice for you if your target is companies.

However, do you think about other ways of advertising besides Internet? how about newspaper and magazine? Many managers of Chinese company do not go on net very often.

I just found out that [wangyi.com...] is not equal to www.163.com. Wangyi is the Chinese name of 163.com. In China, everyone know about wangyi.

That also means that wangyi is misusing the domain. wangyi.com should not be trusted.

>>> By the way what do you know about average age of Chinese internet users?

I guess you can find this kind of information at [cnnic.net.cn....] It is their responsibility to offer this kind of data. If you can not find this kind of information from their English site, you can post here again, I will see what I can do for you.
