"Three top-level Google researchers will fly to Melbourne this week on a recruitment drive, raising speculation that the world's leading search engine is to establish a development centre in the city.

.....On Friday, Dr Craig Nevill-Manning, director of engineering at Google's New York office, engineering vice-president Dr Wayne Rosing and software engineer Dr Martin Kaszkiel will address an audience of computer science engineers on future technical problems facing the company. Thats a pretty awesome array of guys. If I was in Melbourne today - I'd be heading down to Melbourne Uni this morning to see if there were any spare seats!.....

No that surprising.

Most people don't know but there are a number of major tech companies that have RnD centres in Australia.

For example:
* SAP in Brisbane
* Motorola in SA (although I beleive they may be heading further West)
* Citrix in Melbourne
* IBM in Perth.

Those are just the ones I know about.

Australia is cheap compared to the US and politically stable, with a good supply of quality IT graduates.
