ValueCommerce acquires Looksmart Japan

This isn't very new news, but I stubmbled across an English language press release about this:
ValueCommerce acquires Looksmart Japan Directory Business [valuecommerce.com]

The Looksmart Japan assets will be injected into a separate subsidiary, 100% owned by ValueCommerce and the new company will continue to operate under the Looksmart Japan brand name and office. There will be no changes to the day to day operations of the business. All existing LookSmart staff will remain with the company and all operations and technologies will be run out of Japan.

So, while the rest of the LS empire seems to be crumbling their operations in Japan haven't seemed to skip a beat. They have carved out a respectable niche for themselves here. Persistence and longevity in this market matter a bit more in Japan than elsewhere.

Maybe someday soon LookSmart will end up like Infoseek...only in Japan...
