Just received notice that overture Australia will be launching on January 19th.
Partners appear to be Yahoo, Hewlett Packard, Ozemail (big Aust. ISP)
I imagine most current Aust. based advertisers have received this notice. Anyone confirm?

Good find sidewinder,

There was some discussion [webmasterworld.com] about the pending launch back in July, I am sure a lot of people are awaiting this with expectation.

Well done Overture, now they cover pretty much all english speaking countries dont they? (Except the caribbean one's, but they're a bit small though)

Good luck.

I wouldn't say that too loudly with all these Canadians about lazerzubb. ;)

Seriously, Linguistically it does fill a gap in the various English dialects. Commercially, Australia has been waiting for something like this for a long time. It will be interesting to see how well it is taken up.

nice move Overture.

am I right in assuming that it will be ex MD of Alta Vista (australia) who will be running the show?

can see a few of the UK staff requesting a transfer :)

To be honest I don't know how much market reach they will really have. The two big players in search in Australia are nineMSN and Google.

nineMSN is still strongly aligned to Looksmart so I gather that is why Overture is not running on them.

They signed up Yahoo the other day:
[webmasterworld.com...]

Presumably they will also nab AV AU (although that won't amount to much traffic in my opinion)

VP of AV (not sure what the diff is ;)

"Yahoo subsidiary Overture Services, which specialises in commercial internet search services, has appointed Marcelo Silva and former Olympic athlete Dean Capobianco to its Australian operations. Silva is marketing manager, Capobianco is sales director."

Mel's announcement was in August, the rest of the 'team' was announced in October - I started seeing them 'visiting' potential advertisers during Septemeber - so the January "launch" date is interesting!
