You may have seen the news, and video [m.youtube.com], of building two hospitals in mere days in Wuhan to ease Covid-19 medical need.

Well, in a web version of similar magic poof attitude Alipay put out a program encouraging development of mini-apps to help all those home quarantined people. Apparently over a thousand developers built almost two hundred mini-apps each with, naturally, contactless (Ali)payment ability including: grocery deliveries, legal and medical advice, logistics, and public services.

Marketing where everyone wins is simply sublime :)

Alipay was about ready to more open their platform with a developer framework when the virus ‘happened’. If my understanding is correct (it may not be) they put a hold on that and pivoted to specifically target/leverage those forced to stay home.

There are/were developer incentives.

And now they look to be returning to the original three year plan.
Note: WeChat has pretty much sown up social minis and AliPay is driving hard to sew up commercial ones.
Note: this is platform lock in far far greater than FB and Google even dream.
