Yahoo Japan defamed man by displaying false search results [japantimes.co.jp]
The Tokyo High Court has ruled that Yahoo Japan Co. defamed a man and has ordered that it delete 11 search results that associate his name with criminal behavior, sources have confirmed.

If that can set a precedent in other other countries, this could be very important. There's tons of defamation on the WWW.

Yahoo Japan was trying to set a precedent at home as they often don't litigate these sorts of cases and simply use their own judgement and usually just make these sort of results disappear from the SERPs. The precedent they were aiming for was to say that as a search engine they are not responsible for the SERPs. That probably didn't go the way they had expected.
