Web Wombat Featured Links

Hi all,

Just curious to find out if anybody else has tried Web Wombat's Featured Link?

I have just completed a trial of their system where I paid for 2 keywords which were to last for either 180 clicks or 90 days. I received about 90 clicks so I am quite disappointed with it.

I have come to the conclusion that it's not worth even considering Web Wombat again as the keywords that I had chosen were very popular words. However I would like to know if there is anybody else that has tried this and had any success with it?

I just don't think enough people use it.

We receive almost no traffic from their free listings, so I doubt that paid listings would be much better.

Seems a bit odd to put a day limit on it... whats wrong with impressions?

Interesting to see the only way they mark those links as featured is by the color of the area they occupy.

No little text saying "featured" or "sponsored".

But to answer the question. WW delivers very little. I would keep the keyphrases extremely broad to achieve any volume at all.

Tried it about a year back as part of a "big hit" promotional campaign and got virtually nothing from it - only about a dozen clicks in 90 days.

Since we get negligible search referrals from them anyway I had no inclination to repeat the experiment.

Anyone know what their robot is called? I submitted my .au domains (for free) and I don't think they've ever looked at me.... but I send most robots to my non dot au versions - maybe I'm sending them too but didn't know it?

....oh dear - their channel 7 page gave a 404 as did their "Auctions" tab (actually it gave a 500) - not a good look - although their channel 7 page does have a 5/10 PR on google - or is that the 404 page? ;)

I've also seen them occasionally use their url as the user agent name.

Web wombat seemed to peak a year or so ago and are virtually dead now. I paid for inclusion and have had hardly any clicks. Their spider seems to be simply called "web wombat". It was probably the worst ROI of any payment I've made for my site. The same amount spent on google adwords targeted at OZ has been quite profitable so I'll just stick to that in future.

I tried a free submit a couple of days ago and got a 404 at the result page. Can't find the free submit now.

I don't have trouble submitting the free way - but that that said the traffic they deliver probally isn't worth the effort.
