I have noticed that, one of China Portal Site changed their search engine to another chinese engine, they dropped AllTheWeb about one month ago. I tried to search some thing on AllTheWeb in Chinese and I am sure there must be something wrong with it.

I searched some keywords in chinese on ATW, and the total results showes no more than 10. Actually, this keywords can get million results on Google.

I am sure ATW has not resolve this problem, so some chinese companies dropped ATW and cooperate with other chinese engines.

BTW: One of Chinese Portal Sites - Sina have applied Google as its web page search engine!

Is this problem something that just started on ATW, or has it been an issue all along? ATW searches in Japanese have in general been quite good, but as there is no Japanese interface and no current partnership agreements in Japan, I haven't really paid much attention to it lately.

About 3 months ago, I noticed the ATW's search results are in confusion in chinese.
while I search "mydomain.com".
ATW can not display the indexed site infomation properly,
it shows some unknow characters.
I changed the brower encode type "UTF-8", "GB-2312" "BGI5", and all type can not show the results properly. There is no one character can be read. some thing like this:

ÍøÕ¾Íƹã,ÍøÕ¾½¨Éè,ÍøÕ¾¹ú¼ÊÍƹã,ÆóÒµ×¢²á...

I'am sure ATW did not noticed that there is something wrong with chinese indexes, or they could not resolve it easily. This issue has been occured for 3 month.

I just did a search for Shanghai [alltheweb.com] in Chinese characters (although I don't know Chinese, in Japanese the same kanji are used for this city, so that's why I know it must be Shanghai), and it reported 5.4 million pages. And the SERP shows a lot of Chinese pages. But I cannot really verify it.

The number of Japanese and Korean pages dropped in the last 13 month as can be seen in the thread: Language distribution in FAST's index - One year later [webmasterworld.com]

hotice, what are the queries you are trying to do, and is it still a problem?

One advice with ATW is to make sure that Chinese is selected when you search to enable proper handling of the chinese text.
