The Chinese government is starting a new campaign against the production and distribution of counterfeit and pirated software and DVDs, according to the country's official news service.
Citing comments made at a State Council meeting at which Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao presided, the Xinhua News Agency reported this week that the goal is to clamp down on both the import and export of phony software, DVDs, publications, and other products that violate trademarks and patents.

There must be something going on in china that isn't being reported in this story. If we wait a bit I'm sure there will be an article that gives a bit more background.

Will be intrigued to see the results... if any. China has been, and remains, the number one bad actor of pirating software and entertainment IP (Intellectual Property). Not speaking ill, just an observation that containment and prosecution of IP theft has been largely unsuccessful to date.
