Japanese SNS Site Mixi Releases Chinese Language Version [pacificepoch.com]

Japanese social network service (SNS) site Mixi has released a Chinese language site at Mixiu.cn, reports Sohu. The site offers functions for blogs, photos, groups and messaging and is operated by Shanghai Mixiu Network Technology, the sole partner for Mixi's China SNS service, said the report. Reports in February said Mixi planned to establish a Shanghai subsidiary to enter the China market.

China already has several of these SNS networks. It would be nice for Mixi to gain a foothold in the Chinese market, but I have my doubts. The younger Chinese who might be early adopters of such a service are not all that fond of Japan/Japanese companies.

The Mixiu site looks just like the Japanese version. The difference here seems to be the sign-up. Mixi Japan was always an invite only site.

I wonder why they went with Mixiu instead of just plain Mixi. They appear to own mixi.cn ...

"Mixiu" is more brandable and acceptable than "Mixi". It's a culuture difference which is hard for you to understand.
On the other hand, i must admit, their Chinese homepage looks very nice from a Chinese's eyes like me! I hope it get popular here!
