Here's the message that now greets visitors of the Accoona website [accoona.com]:

Dear Accoona search users,

Due to an overwhelmingly competitive search market, Accoona.com and Accoona.cn will no longer be active.

We thank you for your previous support.

Sincerely,

Accoona Management

Accoona started out [webmasterworld.com] with some good press and a lot of talk about their search engine using artificial intelligence. They even had Bill Clinton make the inaugural search. Things didn't go too well for them after that though. Some called it a comedy of errors [alleyinsider.com].

It's unfortunate to have one less SE out there, but Accoona never really got off the ground. I'm afraid their Chinese engine never did as well as their English one did.

I assume it's a bad news. It's not a good signal for one SE or two SEs dominating the world, you know what i mean, that's how the market monopoly generates!
The disadvantages of market monopoly will show up one day and search engine market needs fresh air!

Doesn't help when you pick a name like Accoona. Really, what are people thinking when they come up with names like that.

"Try out Accoona!"
"What?"
"Yeah, accoona! A..c...wait, there's two c's...now put an o...yes, another o, then n and a!" Accoona! Whoever came up with that name should be living in a cardboard box right now as they were doomed from the beginning. It's worse than Cuil.
