Ms Vale said there would be six people employed in Australia by Google by the end of April, and that number was likely to continue growing.

It's good to see that Google thinks that the Australian search market is interesting... They had a big presence at the Search Engine Conference in Sydney March 26 with the likes of AltaVista, LookSmart, Yahoo, GoEureka and Web Wombat.

It seems like the Australian Search space is consolidating as in North America, with most searches coming off the Google or Inktomi search engine. I'd say that for Australian Search the Aussie Wombats are the only other independant search providers.

Does anybody know if AltaVista have dedicated people in Australia?
