Japan's NTT DoCoMo, Google to upgrade i-mode service [money.cnn.com]Japan's biggest cellular phone operator, NTT DoCoMo Inc, will incorporate Internet search and e-mail features from Google Inc into its i-mode mobile Internet service, the Nikkei reported on Tuesday.
Starting as early as spring, users will be able to access Google search, e-mail, scheduling and photo-saving features through the i-mode service, the business daily said, without citing its
sources.
KDDI's AU service tied up with Google some time ago, but their market reach is still behind that of NTT DoCoMo. This will be a large step into Japan's mobile search market for Google.
SoftBank, which owns Yahoo Japan, has their phones tied into Yahoo for portal and search. However they're a distinct #3 in the mobile phone market.
