We've known since last year that there will be a new regional domain, Dot.asia [webmasterworld.com]. I came across their website today and noticed that they have announced the timing for the sunrise and landrush periods. I just thought I should post a heads up to people who want to protect their trademarks/brands/keywords with this new domain.

[dotasia.org ]

  • Oct 9, 2007 - Sunrise 1 (SR1): Governmental Reserved Names
  • Oct 9, 2007 to Oct 30, 2007 - Sunrise 2 (SR2): Registered Marks
  • Nov 13, 2007 to Jan 15, 2008 - Sunrise 3 (SR3): Registered Entity Names
  • Launch dates are to be confirmed. Landrush is targeted for February 2008, Go Live for March 2008.

what i found interesting was the distribution of domains based on merit rather than first come basis.

i wonder what kind of proof or intention you have to show to get the good ones.

Most new domain releases go through similar stages where trademark and brand holders are able to have the first chance to secure their names before everything is opened up to the public.

i wonder what kind of proof or intention you have to show to get the good ones.

If you're referring to the Sunrise period then there are guidelines laid out that specifically denote the terms. For example, trademark holders are required to have registered trademarks prior to a certain date to be considered.

There's only one domain I want there... just crossing my fingers nobody mangages to get through on a registered entity ticket. I wonder how easy it is to get back-dated incorporation in Asia - someone must do it?

Good point, in some asia countries, I would said that you can buy anything by money. anything includes your "back-dated" thing
