Hello everyone, I have been asked to optimize a site for a Japanese market but I have one problem. How do I generate ranking reports using Japanese search terms in Kanji and Kana? I am familiar with using ranking report software for English terms, but I can't seem to use double-byte characters in them. Any suggestions would be most welcomed. Thank you!

Do you have WnXP Japanese version installed? The Microsoft support for Japanese is not fully compatible with all types of characters. By the way, you read Japanese?

I have WinXP English, as well as W2k English. Would I need to use a Mac with the Japanese Language Kit? Which reporting software handles Japanese?

I can read some Japanese. I use a dictionary way too much to call myself proficient. *sigh* I have a colleague who is a native speaker and handles most of the "content". I'm responsible for more of the SEO and reporting.

Thank you!

Welcome to WebmasterWorld MayaII.

Which reporting software handles Japanese?
I've used Analog to analyze log files to determine individual keyword and keyword combinations for Japanese and Chinese referrers from search engines. I don't believe that running ranking report software like WPG is looked upon very favorably by any of the search engines at this time though, so be careful.

I have a new, full version of WinXP Home Japanese if you want it. Japanese webbies aren't really into SEO or even good web design. I doubt you'll have problems ranking your client high in a good position. :)

Bill can you resolve all or almost all of the key phrases in Analogue?

I still get many that I cannot resolve.

What are the tricks?

I've been fortunate with the English version of Analog. I don't get too many of the messed up key phrases. I do have a little more difficulty with Chinese log files for some reason.

Have you thought about trying the Japanese version of Analog [jp.analog.cx]? I did have that on an older machine but I haven't updated for a while. It looks like their translations are fairly current.

Hi Maya
We have developed an inhouse server-based ranking app that can handle all languages (I read Japanese and have tested Japanese sites on it).
It works on ANY search engine and includes a tracking module as well to measure and analyse search engine referrals.
We are not quite at the release stage yet (a couple of weeks away?), but if you are interested, sticky me and I'll tell you some more.
