When we spend lots of time talking about google China, yahoo China or even myspace China, we may ignore another important character that is performing well in the great China stage: Skype.
Latest authoritative statistics shows that the registered Chinese number of skype has already exceeded 25 million which takes around 1/5 share of the global skype registered number. What's more, skype reached this number in just 2 years with facing hard competition from qq, msn and other instant messenger provider.
Note: the main Chinese distribution platform for skype is Tom.com.

Was the Tom.com software licensing deal setup before Skype was purchased by eBay? Otherwise I think we would hear more of the eBay press machine touting their inroads into the China market.

Broadband infrastructure in China is still limited. There are a lot of people using Skype from their offices and Internet cafes. I think that if we saw an economic threat to China telecom that there would be some firewall blocks put in place to disrupt this service.
