My site is in Google, DMOZ and Yahoo. I was looking at some recent server logs and saw that someone had found my site via nineMSN. I entered the keywords into nineMSN and my site did show up under the 'Web pages' section even though I have not paid to be included in this search engine.

I tracked this back to Looksmart and found quite a few of my pages in there (and well ranked in some cases which was good :)).

The confusing part is that some of the pages are newer than the last Google update, so where are Looksmart/Inktomi getting their results from? I haven't seen any crawlers from there so I am a bit puzzled by this (plus the fact that some of the pages in there are so 'new'). I will have to keep better records on where I submit my site to in future I think ;).

Makes me wonder why I would shell out $440 a year to be listed via SmartListings when I would only get 3 URLS per domain anyway.

Inktomi does do free spidering and does crawl links. They usually identify themselves as slurp, but not always. Here's a list of inktomi Ip's
