redstorm, thanks for the search engine data.

Does anyone have up-to-date market share figures for the portal sites?

Also, who's powering who in the portal market? How do the search engine shares look in the portal realm? Does Baidu still have a higher share when you look at the search engines that power the large Chinese portal sites?

From this thread: Adding a site to Chinese SEs [webmasterworld.com]However, it's usually considered best practice to let the SE spiders find you. If you have links from any listed site they should crawl you shortly. I haven't submitted a site to a search engine in years.

To let you know better of the search engines in the Mainland China market, I'd like to provide Chinese portals that are powered by other search engines:
1.soso, powered by google
2.sina powered by iask
3.163 powered by google
4. sohu powered by sogou
5 tom.com powerd by baidu
4.21cn.com powerd by baidu

Must a site be in Chinese in order to be added?

Answer:it's not a must. But as you know, baidu is famous for Chinese language search, so a Chinese language page will surely help your site to get included.
Differents search engines have different criterions to accept a site. In general, the age, the visitor number, the content, the language, the hosting location, or even the domain name of the website will decide if your site will be accepted.

Thanks for the portal data redstorm. This is quite an informative thread.

You mentioned earlier that these portals have millions of unique visitors. Could you expand on that at all? For example, in a given month do you have general traffic figures for the portals? It would be interesting to see the breakdown.
