I am a UK based webmaster and have just landed a managed pay per click account from my eCommerce site the only down side is they want me to promote the site in Aus and NZ.
I will put my hand up and say I don’t know where to go Down Under for ppc. But don’t want to have to do a charge back to the customer on the fee
Any one know whats going on down there regarding PPC engines
any help would be most welcome
I'm in NZ, and I'm not aware of any NZ based PPC programmes.
If there are any here, I would suggest they're not worth your time as, in my experience, kiwis use the big international engines for searching, even if they want NZ specific info. Those few in the know will use searchnz.co.nz for New Zealand specific searches, but it doesn't have PPC.
If you want to target PPC for NZ, I'd go through your usual major players. SEs that I hear most commonly referred to here are MSN and Google. I'd suggest Overture and possibly Google as a backup are going to reach your target better than anything else.
The problem here is that we are very 'connected', but the majority of users are not actually very savvy yet.
Wouldn't have the foggiest idea about Oz though.
I'm another Kiwi and agree with deejay - currently there are no PPC engines in NZ. For this market I suggest using Google Adwords Select and Overture with regionalised keywords for PPC. Also LookSmart Australia provides PPC exposure (see below).
Like many I'm not a fan of LookSmart.com, however their Australian directory looksmart.com.au is worth considering. They have a PPC program called "LookListings for medium to large businesses" which gives high visibility exposure in all the leading Australian search engines, incl the 2 biggest - Yahoo Australia and NineMSN. Listings also appear in LookSmart NZ. See www.looklistings.com.au for details.
Something that was announced at the Search Engine Strategies Conference in Sydney in June is that these listings also appear in Yahoo.com when users have Aust and NZ IP addresses. i.e. instead of the normal Overture sponsored listings. This is a bonus because Kiwis and, I believe, Aussies, primarily use Yahoo.com, Google and MSN for search.
Hope that's of use.
Is it a site featuring products (ie you are really trying to sell the products)to consumers or businesses,
Or is it a web site you are simply trying to drive traffic to?
This strongly determines the nature of the path you would take in Australia.
Apart from that I'm not aware of any other PPC search engine in Australia.
Their results are significantly better. From the testing I did they seemed to be up with most of the leading search engines for quality of results. I don't yet understand their ranking or source of their data but it much better than the junk they were serving up a month ago.
As to the level of traffic. I don't know, but at least now they have a chance of making it. It is a bit of a chicken and egg thing.
