Wednesday started a two-month trial at the Goo portal site, which provides a search engine and is operated by NTT's group company NTT-X. At first, the trial will be focused on the news category to show off the technology's capabilities.

Users can try to search with the same keyword at the original and the new search engines to see the difference on the Goo site

Here's the actual search engine:

NTT Fast Information Receiver [infobee.ne.jp]

Was that name decided in committee? I'm continually amazed by the fact that Japanese rarely title things in Japanese.

LOL :) Very true daikon. I was just reading an article today about how the government is starting an initiative to remove 'foreign' words from general usage and replace them with Japanese equivalents...

The engine is certainly fast, but it looks like results are coming from a limited number of sources. I must say that on some obscure keywords I was coming up with some good relevant SERPs. Any word on when they'll bring this into more general use?
