Lasoo, a geo search engine

Any idea what database it uses?

Search day's newsletter mentioned the Google prize winner contest, basically a geographical search-connection idea (from Daniel Egnor), mentioned earlier in this thread:
[webmasterworld.com...]

the newsletter mentions a similar geo-search-idea called Lasoo.com.

Does anyone know which database Lasoo uses for their searches?
(for the moment it seems quite limited)

(BTW, you can submit your website, to be listed within 1-2 weeks).

the only earlier mentioning of Lasoo I found in WebmasterWorld is:
[webmasterworld.com...]
(referring to a wired article).

Lasoo, a leading provider of spatial software ASP services, has developed the most efficient geographic search and directory system on the Internet. Its proprietary technology delivers information on businesses, services and websites in user-defined locations, providing instant access to local content on wired and wireless devices.

From here: About Lasoo company and technology [lasoo.net] Sounds to me like it's their own tech at work. Pretty nifty.

25 million though seems pretty small...world wide, that's a very small number. Perhaps people get a kick out of it / value from it because it's all geographically based? Seems an interesting concept, though.

I've never seen any traffic myself...anybody?

The technology was the FAST search engine, not sure about the content source.
Looks like the company has gone under, though.

Anyone have any background on this?

No, it looks like the search engine has gone under - the rest of the company seems to still be in business.

Perhaps they had the engine for short term PR, and then killed it after they'd gotten enough attention for their products?
