[businessweek.com...]

... launched travel search engine Mobissimo. A so-called "meta search" site, Mobissimo takes a visitor's query and scours about 80 other travel sites and search engines, typically returning a wider array of prices, airlines, and options. The fledgling company already handles about 500,000 travel searches a month -- a blip compared to online travel bigwigs, but solid for a newly hatched search site.

still find it strange that such services only come up with flights that are at least twice and upto eight times as expensive as the biggest travel agent in my country's offers

mobissimo says brussels - bangkok is 6000$ whereas i can get tickets downtown for 800$. the same story goes for <snip>

do they get most of their sales and searches from business?

Is The search engine not just screen scraping different websites then displaying the results?

Not to sure but if it is done that way it would have took a a few days to do the whole thing...?

Just tried it
On a trip I take frequently
Found an upstate NY USA to Nice France
On a major quality carrier for $600
Usually before the holidays trips cost go higher
So that's a real good deal

coming quite fast too

Love the way the page keeps refreshing as lower prices are found when you do a search. Nice psychology...

tried it for some international routes and the fares are quite off. I can buy tickets on expedia & on the street for lower.

Try for a fare on something not cross-atlantic eg a inter-capital SE Asian route and I get the same problem I get with pretty much all online brokerages - ludicuosly inflated rates - excuse me while I walk around the corner to my travel agent an save myself $200.

Not a criticism so much against the site you mention but rather airfare consolidators in general.... not everyone lives in continental USA and goes to France for breakfast ;-)

OMG is refreshed - 1,100 pounds sterling for something I get for USD180... hmm let me think about that.

It is fast though.

Could have saved myself hours of looking up different sites a few weeks ago if I'd known about this. Sweet.

Think i'll be sticking with <snip> - half the price of mobissimo.

Good idea though - they just need to get some more data sources, to be more competitive on price.

The hotel prices were much cheaper/better.

I bet they don't offer the discount airlines. In Europe this makes a huge difference.

Just tried it for a flight my wife needs, Warsaw - Luxembourg. It came up with 380$ with Luxair.

On the Luxair site the price is 230$

This is a similar concept to <snip>, a company Yahoo just acquired. They mentioned it very briefly in the businessweek article.
