Not before time. The name dogpile has some unpleasant connotations here in the UK.

I am curious...what does it mean in the UK? Tried urbandictionary.com, but to no avail.

dogpile was always a terrible name. I'm not from the UK but each time I pronounce it it reminds me of dog doodoo. (pile of dog doodoo)

It means a pile that a dog leaves behind (ie dog poo) :)

I wasn't aware that it had any other meaning. I sort of thought that dogpile was going for a punk-type image with its brand name.

One time I was in Mexico and I saw this huge pack of dogs all following this one little female dog. It was a tangled mess of barking, growling, snarling, biting and other things. Many of the male dogs were so caught up in the hysteria that they lost track of who the female dog was at the expense of the nearest male dog. Anyway, this is what I thought of every time I heard the word DogPile so hats off to their marketing team for a brilliant name change.

I'm not sure how they thought anyone would take the name dogpile seriously. Could you imagine telling someone that dogpile is a great search engine - not me.

It always sent me some traffic. DP was good years ago when you wanted to search for something very thoroughly.

I assumed the name meant that you got a little poop at first, then more and more. Like a pile of dog doo doo.

The name change is about 8 years past due (doo?)

I like the Dogpile name; it's better than Webfetch anyway.

dogpile was named by the original founder as a tribute to his dog, whose photo can be seen at the website under some page.

Webfetch might have a better connotation then "dogpile" - but it's still not that great of a name.

They could have come up with something better.

How long did take them to realise that dog pile = dog doo-doo to most people? I think this can be taken as lesson in getting as many people as possible to vet potential website names...

Uhh... anyone else not able to complete a search there? I get a 404 error at both domains - I was just testing out a search that I always enter first... and got the error.

Well, yes, it was one of the few 1998 computer
"solutions" that didn't have the word "solution" in its name.

BTW, marketing rule 2, don't name something after a waste product

I never thought of it as dog poop. Now that I know this I can see how that is.

I always envisioned a dog that was digging in the ground trying to bury or find somthing, leaving behind a "dogpile" of dirt.
